Blackwater River State Forest – Coldwater Recreation Area, Northwest FL

If you’re looking for a relaxed stay with full amenities for you and your horses in the middle of nature, the Coldwater Recreation Area is the place to go!

The campsites have a direct view onto the horse area and are located right next to Blackwater River. The fresh and clear water will provide you with awesome opportunities to either just relax, go for a swim or even rent a canoe while your horses are safely housed in their stalls/paddocks.

You can choose from different paddocks and stalls, with or without cover. There are wash racks, a round pen, manure bin and even three very large paddocks with plenty of grass for your horses to enjoy and stretch those legs.

Riding the trails here is a lot of fun and there are plenty to discover! They are mostly wooded with a sand/grass footing, hilly and therefor provide scenic views and shade during hotter days. The pink and yellow trail are part of the Florida Trailtrotter Program.

The bathroom and shower houses are very well maintained, clean and offer nice hot showers. There is a pavilion and plenty of picnic benches throughout the campground.

The state forestry staff and volunteers are super friendly and go above and beyond to help you with questions or needs.

Cost is $ 20 per campsite per night including all the hookups, $ 5 per horse per stall.
