Bucket List Ride – finally realizing our dream of riding our own horses on the beach!
One of the few places this is possible is in St. Lucie County on Florida’s East Coast.
There is a spacious parking area for horse trailers and also restrooms and pavilions. You’ll make your way over some beautiful dunes onto the beach. The water is just gorgeous and really blue! But be aware that there can be quite some waves, our horses gave us some funny looks when they saw those “monsters”. Also the sand can be deep in some places. But the beach itself is just beautiful and makes for an unforgettable and relaxing experience!
You will need a permit, a gate key and fill out an application and waiver to ride on the beach, which you can get at the St. Lucie County office (2000 Virginia Avenue, Fort Pierce, FL 34982). The permit is good for two horses and there are weekly ($ 35 for residents, $ 100 for non-residents) and annual permits ($ 50 for residents and $ 200 non-residents).
